For the past week, my social studies students have been working on their Life Map exercise. A Life Map is a map in which each student plots out significant events in their life in chronological order. Students were asked to use photographs or images that depict/describe certain events in their life.
Students were asked to put these photos on either paper, poster board, or submit electrically. Above is an example of a life map that was submitted electrically, created by a student in my 4th hour class. He focused on certain areas in the state of Arkansas where he or his family has lived. He also used pictures to describe features that are specific to those areas. Notice in the southern part of the state, he used a picture of a swamp, alligator, and oil rig to describe what the area was like.

Havent seen this done before but really like the idea adn I think it would be a strong meaningful task with the students. Got me thinking that I should do something similar for myself!

The map is great! I am excited to use this assignment as a social studies/ “get to know you” exercise in my future classroom. In fact, I like the idea so much I want to take a screen shot of the map and comment so I could store and refer to it later, however, I do not know how to take a screen shot yet. I will ask Dr. Strange later, but I wanted to thank you for helping me to recognize yet another deficiency in my technological knowledge pool. It’s confounding how much there is to learn!
