Yesterday in class I pose the question to my students, what the removal of Native American tribes from their homeland wrong or was it necessary for expansion of the US in the 1800’s? Students discussed this point in class and made arguments for either the American need for land or the rights of Native Americans. The video about is from my 5th period and their discussion of this topic.

  1. Hi Mr. McClung! I’m a student in Dr. Strange’s EDM 310 class and I was assigned to this post. Your class discussion was very entertaining. I liked how you put a spectrum on the board so your class could visually see where most of their viewpoints were falling. I have to say, it cracked me up when one student said “Indians weren’t contributing to society”, and the other said “neither are you”. Looks like you have a class that likes to debate, which can make a subject much more entertaining! That was a great discussion and I look forward to following your blog in the future!

  2. My name is Jacob Webb and I was also assigned to visit your blog as a part of Dr. Strange’s class. I think the way you conduct your classroom blog is very effective. I also laughed at the disagreement that came up about contributing to society. I also really like how you play Devil’s Advocate to make the students see the the issue from every perspective.

  3. Hi Mr. McClung, My name is Brittany and I am a student in Dr. Stranges EDM 310 class at the University of South Alabama. I thought you did an excellent job by getting your students involved. I thought you did this by basically getting students to interact and elaborate on how they feel about the situation. It was a very entertaining class period and I think by putting a spectrum on the board it gave everyone in the room an idea of where each student stands. I look forward to reading your other blogs.

  4. I don’t know why but I cannot get this video to load. I am very interested in watching it as I am preparing a class discussion on the same topic. Is there any chance you could email it to me?
