On Saturday 66 students gathered in Little Rock to compete in the state spelling bee and the right to represent Arkansas in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. After a long hard fight our very own Jacob Elser came out on top. Everyone back in Fayetteville is very proud of this accomplishment by Jacob and we all look forward to seeing him perform on the national level.

  1. Congratulations, Jacob! That’s how you spell success! Dr. Strange, my teacher at USA, sent me to Mr. McClung’s blog. You are my “Comments For Kids” student for this week. It feels a little strange calling you a kid…so please pardon the title of our assignment. It must be awesome to represent your school, community, and state with such an outstanding accomplishment! What was your winning word? When do you compete at nationals? Please pass along my compliments to Mr. McClung for his impressive blog! I’d love for you both to check out my blog…he’ll find a recent post with “his name on it” there 🙂 Keep up the good work, Jacob. I’ll stay tuned to learn more about your progress!

  2. Hi, My name is, Kelly Evans, I am a student at, The University of South Alabama. I am an elementary education major and a student in, Dr. Strange’s, EDM 310 Class. I was assigned to this post as part of our comments for kids assignment.

    Jacob,

Good job on winning the spelling bee! That is quite an accomplishment and I am sure that Mr. McClung, your classmates, and family are very proud of you.

I was very impressed with the words you spelled. They were very hard! I don’t think I could have done it.

My girls participated in their school spelling bee a couple of months ago and I was so nervous just listening to the words they were spelling. They didn’t win, but had a great time taking a part in the spelling bee.

  3. Ah ha! Thanks for commenting Kelly! Your post caused me to dig a little deeper and I found the link to the Arkansas Spelling Bee Info including the winning word and date of Nationals.

Jacob, enjoy your trip to Washington! My daughter will travel there next week with her high school band to march in the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. She plays the saxophone and enjoys jazz band.

    Jacob,

Great job on winning the spelling bee! I remember growing up having spelling contest in grade school. I was never a good speller though. Enjoy your trip to Washington. It’s a great place to visit. I have traveled there many times with my old soccer team!

  5. Hi, My name is Rebecca and I am a student at South Alabama in EDM310 at the university of South Alabama.

Congratulations Jacob! That is an amazing accomplishment, especially with the words you had to spell. I definitely know I would have never gotten those words right at 24 years old, much less in eighth grade! Keep up the great work!

    Rebecca
