Lesson One – Beard Me

This week we started our annual fundraiser for the United Way. In the past we have raised money for this organization by having teacher competitions; one year we had a sexy legs contest followed the next year by a flex off. This year, we have the beard off. Teachers volunteered to take their photos and have a beard put on them using the Beard Me iPhone app. Students then vote for their favorite bearded teacher by donating money towards the teacher of their choice. This year I have given the kids a bit of an incentive to vote for me in the beard off, if I win the beard off this year I am going to allow my students to vote on the beard style that I will shave my, what will be 3 week old, beard.

Lesson Two – It’s Just One of Those Days…

On Wednesday we were in the middle of having a very normal day. During 4th period one of my students, Kyle, strolled into my classroom wearing a blue tutu. After composing myself, I asked Kyle what was with the get up. To which he replied, it’s just one of those days. I can certainly sympathize.

Lesson Three – One More Time

As we near the end of our cross country season, we have only one meet left. Next Tuesday we will compete in our end of the year final, the 7a conference championship. Going into this meet we have definitely been the underdogs all year only coming away with one 1st place finish and a couple of 2nd place finishes. It will certainly be a tough task for us to try and dethrone the current champs, Central, but my runners have been focused all week long and I’m expecting them to have their best race of the year.

  2. My name is Angela Pitts, and I am a student in EDM 310 at the University of South Alabama. Your post about the blue tutu was funny. It was a great example of how a small act can brighten a classroom.

What a fantastic idea to use the Beard Me app to raise money for a great cause. I hope that you will post a photo of yourself if you win. I would love to see the beard style that your students choose for you.

  3. Hello Mr. McClung. I am one of Dr. Strange’s EDM 310 students from the University of South Alabama. I thoroughly enjoyed reading over your blog. It seems you really enjoy what you do, and in teaching that is so very important. I teach 6, 7,& 8th grade literature at Corpus Christi Catholic School, and I am currently taking this course to recertify. I have learned so much about technology from taking this class. I hope to start a blog for my own class very soon. Thanks for sharing!
