The past two days in our social studies class, I introduced a learning strategy to my students called permits. Permits is an acronym system that we use to attach meaning to terms and current issues. Listed below is the acronym spelled out:

Political/Legal – having to do with the government, laws, politics, courts, etc.

Economic – having to do with jobs, money, stock market, banks, etc.

Religious – having to do with church, priests, belief systems, beliefs, etc.

Military – having to do with war, military strategy, military officers, etc.

Intellectual property – having to do with ideas, theories, poems, technological advances, written stories, books, etc.

Technology – having to do with equipment, inventions, computers, scientific discoveries, medical technologies, etc.

Social/Arts – having to do with society, culture, community, music, food, fashion, personal behaviors, painting, etc.

The past two days we have used this system to attach meaning to articles regarding density population, birthrate, and death rate. Today we will continue our discussion of global issues using permits….above is the full document that I provided to my students explaining permits.
