In social studies we study A LOT of vocabulary terms on a weekly basis. So many vocab words that we are introducing new terms almost on a daily basis. So the problem becomes how to introduce and properly teach vocab in a manner that is not so forgettable. In our class we learn vocab through a strategy called mini-lessons. Many times we will start our class off with one of these lesson, which consist of myself defining the term and associated a gesture to help remember it. While I’m doing gestures, students follow along and then explain the term to their partner. Above is a video of my 5th period class practicing in this activity.

This looks like a great way to help tactile students remember the definitions. You should cross post this on At the Teacher’s Desk.
