An easier way to embed presentations is to use Google presentation and you get the embed code when you publish. Do your students have email addresses? Could be a good reason for them to get one from gmail if they are going to do presentations.
We use google docs quite a bit, but slideshare is helpful in the fact that you can upload your word and ppt right from your computer.
