As our unit on electricity and magnetism mercifully comes to a end, we are now gearing up to start a new unit on sound and light. The past two days we have been focusing on the properties of waves to gain a basic understanding of how they work. On Monday we focused on two types of waves, transverse and longitudinal waves. In the video above, Harvey is demonstrating how a create a longitudinal wave using a Slinky.

We also took some time today to take a closer look at transverse waves as well. In the video above, a couple of my students are trying to measure the amplitude of their rubber tubing.
