Mr McClung had us write an essay/paper on a law suit taken place ini the early 1900’s or late 1800’s that involved something about racisim, or segregation. We did this because our history class is about to start learning about Jim Crow Laws and the KKK and things that were bias against blacks and went on during the Civil Rights Movement.

I wrote my essay about the Brown vs. Education case. This case was about a third grade girl, Linda Brown, who had to walk six blocks to get to her bus stop every day to ride to and from school. This isnt too unbareable of a walk, but it was un-needed when there was another public school in the city of Topeka only one mile away from the Brown’s house. So she was basically walking all this way just because the school district and board of education did not wat to integrate their school..so they sent her to a segregated school that was farther away from their house. This did not go over with Mr. Brown, so he took the matter all the way to the Supreme Court, and ended up wining the case. THis changed how schools functioned all around the country at this time, and if it wasnt for this lawsuit, there is no telling how long the schools in Kansas, and the rest of the United States would have been segregated and unfair.
