wtf_snow_catWe have had a very unusually start to the new semester here at Woodland…so far we have been in school for six weeks and of those six weeks we have only had one week that we have gone to school on all five days. The reason for this? Snow…and lots of it. Sure enough this week is shaping up to be similar to previous weeks with heavy snow fall expected for this evening. Despite all odds though, today we press on and move into a new unit in Arkansas history.

Paleo-Arkansans

Students, today in class you will begin your unit on early Arkansans…more specifically Paleo-Arkansans. Here is the basic information you guys will  be studying with Ms. Simonek:

  • Existed from 11,500 BC to 9,500 BC and arrived here via ice bridge connecting Russia to Alaska
    • This is likely how the fifrst humans made their way to North America
  • We can date Indians in Arkansas back to 10,00 BC
  • They were hungers and gathers; hunted mammoths, mastodons, sloths, musk ox, etc.
  • They live in small groups and moved frequently

As we move forward with this unit, don’t forget to keep up with your notes from Ms. Simonek as well as the “snow day” assignment, Page 120 questions 1-14 (excpet 3 & 7).
